What You'll Do
As the Senior User Researcher Lead, you’ll set the standard for excellence in player research. You’ll design, conduct, and lead user research efforts that fuel product decisions and enhance gameplay across genres and platforms. You’ll also help define how research functions at NBI—internally and externally—ensuring our studio partners gain maximum value from every insight.
Key Responsibilities
Lead delivery of user research across multiple studio engagements
Collaborate with design, product, data, and development teams to uncover and frame the right questions at the right time
Lead all phases of research including defining goals, selecting methodologies, participant recruitment, testing, analysis, and synthesis
Conduct qualitative and quantitative research (playtesting, usability, interviews, surveys, diary studies, etc.)
Analyse behavioural data, telemetry, and attitudinal feedback to create clear, actionable insights
Translate research findings into compelling narratives and data-backed recommendations that inform design decisions
Develop personas, user journeys, and behavioural frameworks grounded in cognitive science and player psychology
Partner with analysts to amplify the depth and context of insights through integrated data systems
Present findings to stakeholders across levels—executives, producers, designers, and engineers—with clarity and strategic foresight
Mentor and lead a growing team of researchers, fostering a high standard of excellence
Shape research process and culture at NBI and contribute to strategic service development
What We’re Looking For
5+ years of user research experience, with a strong focus on games (AAA and/or indie)
Deep familiarity with behavioural research, game psychology, or cognitive science principles
Mastery in a range of methods (qual, quant, behavioural telemetry) and tools (UserZoom, Lookback, PlaytestCloud, etc.)
Fluency in data analysis and the ability to collaborate with data scientists and analysts
A strategic mindset—capable of zooming out to align research with product and studio goals
Superb communication skills—clear, concise, and impactful with technical and non-technical audiences alike
Experience working in agile or hybrid development environments
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Psychology, HCI, Sociology, Anthropology, or related field
Passion for video games and a player-first philosophy
Bonus Points
Experience leading UXR functions inside a studio or consulting group
Familiarity with telemetry and data pipelines in game environments
Prior experience conducting international research or localization studies
Experience with segmentation models, FTUE assessments, and live service optimization
